Sports Rehabilitation

Sharon Regional Sports MedicineSharon Regional's team is committed to offer treatment services that reflect the most current research and developments in the field. All therapists receive ongoing education and attend regional and national conferences in their area of specialty.

Whether you are recovering from surgery or injury, or suffering from a medical condition, our experienced staff will guide you through the process with compassionate care and personal attention.

Sharon Regional's licensed therapists and assistants are dedicated to the promotion of health and the recovery from injury and dysfunction.

Upon referral, our patients receive a comprehensive evaluation by a licensed therapist. A treatment program is then designed to provide recovery of motion and strength, alleviation of pain and return to an active lifestyle based on the patient's individual goals and needs.

A typical treatment plan includes education, self-management techniques and therapeutic exercise. Sharon Regional therapists strongly encourage patients to optimize their recovery by participation in a home exercise program they will be given which will significantly impact their recovery. Manual therapy and modalities such as ultrasound and electrical stimulation are also utilized to aid the rehabilitation process.

Athletic Training Services

During those busy times, medical expertise is essential to prevent and respond to athletic injuries from football, basketball, track, and other high school and collegiate sports. Throughout Mercer County, Sharon Regional remains the leading provider of sports medicine, including athletic training, sports conditioning, and physical rehabilitation services.

Sharon Regional's Athletic Training Services provides high schools with fulltime Certified Athletic Trainers (ATC). The certified trainers work closely with physicians, orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists, cardiologists, exercise physiologists, and dietitians in order to provide athletes with modern technologies and treatments to speed their return to activity.

Some highlights of the athletic training program are emergency action plans, injury rehabilitation, pre-, post- and off-season conditioning, practice and game coverage and Fast Track referrals.

Certified Athletic Trainers have bachelor's degrees or higher, are board certified and state licensed, and are trained to handle life-threatening injuries such as head and neck trauma. Such techniques have earned the ATC recognition by the American Medical Association as being a medical professional.

Sharon Regional currently provides athletic trainers for Sharon, Kennedy Catholic, Hickory, Farrell, Brookfield, and Mercer high schools.

The program is directed by James McNeil, Jr., MHSA, ATC, who earned a Master's of Health Service Administration from Georgia Southern University and a Bachelor's in Science Allied Health/Athletic Training from Slippery Rock University. McNeil previously was director of sports medicine for Enduracare Therapy Management Services of Georgia.

"Our top priority is keeping our area athletes well-conditioned and free from injury," McNeil says. "We are extremely proud of the professional caliber of our Athletic Training Services and encourage parents with children in athletics to talk to their school district about implementing the program."
