Open MRI now available at Sharon Regional
The Department of Medical Imaging at
Sharon Regional Health System has expanded its MRI capabilities and is now offering
Open MRI services at Sharon Regional's Cancer Care Center, 2320 Highland
Road, Hermitage. MRI is a diagnostic tool used to assist physicians and other
health team members obtain images of various parts of the body without the use
of x-rays. The new Open MRI operates in a similar manner to the
high field, fixed unit in place at Sharon Regional's main campus.
The Open MRI uses an "open" entrance, or gantry, and is particularly
suited to patients who have feelings of claustrophobia or anxiety, or have other
restriction issues that may have prevented them from having an MRI scan performed
on Sharon Regional's fixed MRI unit.
Barry Marchetto, M.D., Chief radiologist at Sharon Regional, stated the availability
of Open MRI services will benefit both patients and physicians. "Patients
who needed Open MRI in the past had to go elsewhere for this service.
We're pleased to now have Open MRI available at Sharon Regional along
with the high level of radiologic expertise our team of radiologists provides
for our patients," said Dr. Marchetto.
