Nurse specialist joins Breast Care Center
Marilyn Maule, RN, has joined Sharon Regional as a breast care nurse in the Health System’s Breast Care Center. Her primary responsibilities involve working closely with the radiologists of Allegheny Radiology Associates, the Health System’s new radiology group, along with other members of the Breast Care Center team to assist coordinating the care of women throughout the mammography screening, diagnosis, and treatment process.
The breast care nurse provides information and support to patients who are facing further breast diagnostic tests and/or those with a diagnosis of breast cancer who face surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation; works with pre- and post-op mastectomy patients in providing information, education, and support; and coordinates referrals as needed to Sharon Regional’s Cancer Care Center or other community resources.
William R. Poller, M.D., Director of Breast Imaging for Allegheny Radiology Associates, welcomed Ms. Maule to the breast imaging program at Sharon Regional.
“We are very excited about the enhancements we’re making in Sharon Regional’s Breast Care Center and Ms. Maule will certainly play a major role,” Dr. Poller says. “As we move into our Women’s Pavilion at the new Diagnostic and Imaging Center in Hermitage, we will be providing women in the region with a comprehensive breast care program second to none.”
Ms. Maule is a graduate of Sharon Regional’s School of Nursing and has 26 years of nursing experience. She spent 19 years as a critical care nurse at Sharon Regional and most recently worked as a surgical office nurse for a local surgeon. In that role she helped counsel women facing breast cancer surgery and also coordinated referrals for ongoing cancer treatment for these women.
