New “room service” dining available
Patients at Sharon Regional can now take advantage of room service dining, based on the same concept as offered in fine hotels. The At Your Request food service program started in September for patients throughout the hospital. At Your Request is a new concept in patient meal service, available to patients who meet certain criteria. Patients can order whatever food they desire each day between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Food orders will be checked to make sure they meet the patient's diet order criteria.
“The response to this program has been phenomenal from both patients and staff,” stated Jeff Clark, director of Nutrition Services. “I had read about several other hospitals who developed a room service dining program for their patients and I was very excited to bring that program to Sharon Regional.”
Mickey Gula, RN, BSN, director of acute care nursing, also had positive comments about the program. “Our patient comments have been just fantastic,” Gula said. “Like a hotel, our patients can now order whatever food items they would like to eat and it will be cooked to order and delivered directly to their room.”
Sharon Regional changed its meal service system to provide the patient with more choices; to improve food quality by providing freshly prepared meals; to improve customer service; to decrease food waste; and to decrease the call time nurse spend answering call lights for meal problems.
