Dr. Garrow board certified in palliative medicine
George C. Garrow, M.D., medical director of oncology at Sharon Regional's Cancer
Care Center, recently earned board certification in palliative medicine through
the American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (APHPM).
Palliative medicine includes achieving the best possible quality of life for
the patient and family throughout the course of a life-threatening illness through
the relief of suffering and the control of symptoms. Such relief requires the
comprehensive assessment and interdisciplinary team management of the physical,
psychosocial, social, and spiritual heeds of patients and their families.
The ABHPM promotes excellence in the care of all patients with advanced, progressive
illness through the development of standards for training and practice in palliative
medicine.
