Sharon Regional Receives Leadership Award
VHA Inc., a national health care alliance, has recognized Sharon Regional for providing excellent care to patients in its intensive care units (ICU). The 2006 VHA Leadership Award for Clinical Excellence honors organizations that have distinguished themselves from other VHA members by achieving national performance standards in specific clinical categories. The award was presented in May at VHA’s Leadership Conference in St. Louis.
Sharon Regional is one of 26 hospitals nationwide to be recognized for excellence in critical care by VHA.
“This award validates the dedicated focus of our clinical staff and physicians to improve the care provided to our intensive care patients,” says Wayne Johnston, Sharon Regional president and CEO. “By applying evidence-based measures into a critical care patient’s plan of care, we are able to monitor and measure the overall rate of improvement in our patients.”
Patients that are hospitalized in the ICU are often sicker than other patients, and therefore, more susceptible to developing complications. Providing superior care to these patients can reduce the likelihood for complications that could lengthen hospital stays.
To receive the award in this category, Sharon Regional had to demonstrate measurable improvement in its ICUs by applying processes to eliminate infection.
