Sharon Regional announces capital campaign to enhance patient care rooms

Sharon Regional has launched a three-year Capital Campaign designed to help acquire 152 new patient care beds along with overbed tables, bedside stands, patient/visitor chairs, and several other room enhancements. Total cost of the project is estimated at $1.4 million. Individuals or businesses that pledge at the

Platinum level [$10,000 or more] over the three-year campaign will be honored by having their name appear on a door plaque as a sponsor of a specific patient care room. Special recognition will also be given to individuals or businesses whose cumulative support reaches the $5,000 [Gold], $2,500 [Silver], or $1,000 [Bronze] levels through December 31, 2005.

Sharon Regional has already received pledges at the Platinum level from the Shenango Valley Foundation, Hudson Group, Inc., Wayne W. Johnston, Sharon Regional president/CEO and his wife Diane, Hill-Rom Company, and the Sharon Regional Medical Staff.

James Feeney, chairman of the Board of Directors of Sharon Regional, encouraged members of the community to support the campaign. "I think sometimes we forget that Sharon Regional is a non-profit, community-owned facility that is here to care for area residents throughout their lives. Since the hospital is not owned by an out-of town facility, we truly have the community's best interests in mind as we plan and implement the health care services needed in this region."

Charles D'Auria, D.O., president of the Sharon Regional medical staff, gave his support to the campaign. "The physicians at Sharon Regional have seen the number of advanced diagnostic and treatment services developed by Sharon Regional over the past ten years, such as open heart surgery, angioplasty, the Cancer Care Center, and much more. We're pleased to give our support to this campaign so the nurses and other caregivers can continue to care for our patients in an environment that is favorable to healing and recovery."

Larry Haynes, executive director of the Shenango Valley Foundation, was pleased that his board made a pledge to the campaign. "I certainly recognize the importance of having a strong health care system for this community, not only in caring for our residents but also as a major factor in attracting new business to the area. As a valuable community asset, we're happy to support Sharon Regional in this effort and challenge others to also step forward."

There is a model room that includes all of the new furnishings on the 6West patient care unit as well as one room in the critical care unit. Additional new patient care beds and other furnishings are expected to begin arriving later this summer.
