Newest drug-eluting stent available to angioplasty patients at Sharon Regional Interventional cardiologists in the Heart Institute of Sharon Regional have begun using Boston Scientific Corporation's FDA-approved TAXUStm Express2tm Paclitaxel-Eluting Coronary Stent System. The TAXUS Express2 Paclitaxel-Eluting Coronary Stent System is a new paclitaxel-coated stent system that helps to prevent the renarrowing (restenosis) of a coronary artery after balloon angioplasty and stenting, reducing the need for repeat procedures that may occur with the use of "bare metal" stents. The TAXUS Express2 Paclitaxel-Eluting Coronary Stent System has been in wide use in Europe and other international markets since February 2003. Cardiologists at Sharon Regional began using drug-eluting stents last July with the introduction of Johnson & Johnson's CYPHERtm stent. The addition of Boston Scientific Corporation's TAXUS Paclitaxel-Eluting stent is yet another new technology to benefit Sharon Regional's angioplasty patients. "We are very enthusiastic about the TAXUS Express2 Paclitaxel-Eluting Coronary Stent System," said James Ryan, M.D., Cardiologist and director of the Winner Cardiac Catheterization and Interventional Lab at Sharon Regional. "We're looking forward to using this important technology to advance our angioplasty and stenting procedures." In clinical trials, the TAXUS Paclitaxel-Eluting Coronary Stent System consistently demonstrated safety and uniform healing across lesion types and vessel sizes. As a result, the technology can be used with more patient types and more lesions. For more information, please call our Health Information Center at 724-983-5518 or 800-346-7997. |
