School of Nursing changes admission date
May 2008
Sharon Regional Health System's School of Nursing has revised its academic calendar and has established new entry and graduation dates for future classes. Traditionally, the School has accepted new students in January who would graduate 16 months later in May of the following year.
While the School remains a 16-month diploma program, due to the installation of a patient simulator laboratory, increased enrollment, and a graduation date more conducive to the nursing shortage, the entry date was changed from January to August starting in 2010, with the first class graduating under the new academic calendar in December 2011. The final January class admission is January 2009.
The School is now accepting applications for classes starting August 2010.
Important dates are:
- December 1, 2009---Deadline for applications for class entering August 2010; Applicants must have or plan to have at least 12 credits from required courses by December 31, 2009 to be eligible to interview.
- January-April 2010---Interviews will be conducted
- May 2010---Final selection of class
- June 2010---Orientation
- August 2010---Classes start (all required courses must be completed)
- December 2011---Graduation
This change does not affect the School's next class that starts January 2009. Applications for that class closed in March. The January 2009 entry class will graduate in early May 2010.
The School's new simulation lab will have three adult, one child, one infant patient simulator and computer access for web-based projects. A lab coordinator will supervise the lab and integrate the technical applications into each course.
The School of Nursing is located in the E.J. O'Meara Health Education Building, 740 E. State St., Sharon. For more information, please call 724-983-3865 or e-mail bkloss@srhs-pa.org.
