Sharon Regional’s new Therapeutic Pool open
A new therapeutic pool recently opened adjacent to Sharon Regional’s Rehab Center, 2380 Highland Rd., Hermitage. The therapeutic pool is designed to help those who are currently under a doctor’s care or suffer from an acute or chronic injury or condition such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, chronic pain, fractures, or athletic injuries.
The benefits of this form of therapy include improved circulation and control of swelling, buoyancy makes exercising easier and safer to perform, 90 degree water relaxes muscles and joints allowing pain relief, and a water current that provides resistance to movement while challenging balance.
Aquatic therapy offers a new dimension of rehabilitation through Sharon Regional.
“The warm water coupled with the clinical skills of a therapist allows greater motion with more comfort, therefore speeding the healing process for many patients,” says Walt Sokac, OTR, MPH, director of Rehab Services. “Our pool is being designed specifically to include use from senior citizens, adults, athletes and students, and children. Through aquatic therapy, our rehab team is able to help our patients regain their independence in a much shorter time.”
Sharon Regional offers therapy and post rehab programs available on a prescription basis from a physician or through patient referral.
