Sharon Regional welcomes new anesthesia group

Sharon Regional is pleased to announce the arrival of Penn-Ohio Anesthesia Associates as the new exclusive provider of anesthesia services at Sharon Regional. The group consists of four full-time anesthesiologists headed by group president Frederick Kurz, M.D. and medical director Emil Maurer, M.D. along with Shaun Hennon, M.D. and Donald Person, M.D.

The group provides comprehensive adult and pediatric anesthesia services to Sharon Regional's Surgical Services. Anesthesia services are provided for all general surgical procedures, cardiac anesthesia for open-heart surgery, monitored anesthesia sedation for patients having endoscopic procedures in the endoscopy suites, placement and management of epidurals for women in labor, coverage of caesarian sections, and specialized blocks for surgical patients.

Drs. Kurz, Hennon, and Person were all partners in Associates in Anesthesiology, Inc. in Youngstown prior to joining Sharon Regional. Dr. Kurz was formerly the chairman of the department of anesthesiology at Salem Community Hospital in Salem, Ohio. He received his medical education from the Medical College of Ohio and completed a residency in anesthesia at Forum Health in Youngstown. He is board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology.

Dr. Hennon received his medical education from the Medical College of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and also completed his residency at Forum Health. He is board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology with an additional subspecialty in pain management.

Dr. Person earned his medical degree from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill and completed both a one-year surgery internship and anesthesia residency at Forum Health. He is board certified and has a special interest in regional anesthesia and pain management in malignant states.

Dr. Maurer is a graduate of MCP Hahnemann School of Medicine in Philadelphia and served his anesthesia residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He is board eligible in anesthesia and is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists and Pennsylvania Society of Anesthesiologists. Special interests include regional anesthesia and pain management.
