A New Direction
Substance Abuse Program

Behavioral Health Services’ substance abuse program, A New Direction, is an abstinence-based treatment program that offers an individualized therapeutic care plan to include a combination of intensive outpatient and traditional outpatient therapy that supports the long term recovery of each client.

The Hallmark of our substance abuse program is to heighten client awareness about the progression of their use from recreational to problematic and to support, encourage, and assist our clients to commit to a lifestyle free of substance use.

Adult Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient Chemical Dependency ProgramProgram Flexibility
A strong feature of our program is the flexibility of the treatment schedule, which includes morning and evening individual and group sessions. This flexibility allows individuals to continue to work, attend school and/or take care of childcare needs while they receive treatment for their addiction.

Highly Qualified Therapists
All of our staff hold a minimum of a Master's degree and possess at least 12 years of experience in the field of addictions counseling. A number of our counselors hold additional licensing in areas of social work, professional counseling, as well as certification in addiction's counseling.

A New Direction
This program offers two paths to recovery which are designed to best meet the needs of the client.  The first path includes traditional Outpatient Therapy (OP) and Counseling Education.  Outpatient therapy gives participants the opportunity to address substance abuse issues and to develop a self-directed plan of personal recovery.  Clients can work one-on-one with a therapist and/or in group sessions to address sobriety and individual goals for recovery.  Outpatient therapy is short term (usually between four and 14 weeks), solution-focused, and is designed to meet individual needs through session work.

The second path is the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), which offers three hour groups, three days a week for six to eight weeks, daily process and theme groups, and individual therapy sessions once a week.  Upon completion of the IOP clients transition into our traditional outpatient therapy for additional treatment, the length and frequency of which is determined by need and a plan of care created by the therapist and the client.

Our highly qualified and experienced substance abuse therapists provide care across the continuum of our substance abuse program providing familiarity and consistency for the clients and ensuring that they receive the level of care they need while working toward a safe and timely discharge.

The program accepts referrals from community agencies, employers, the courts, and individuals seeking treatment on their own.  To ensure that everyone has access to treatment, regardless of their ability to pay, we provide financial counselors to assist with payment options.

Behavioral Health Services offers traditional substance abuse outpatient therapy at both our main facility at 2375 Garden Way in Hermitage and at our satellite in Mercer, 551 Greenville Road.  while the Intensive Outpatient Program is offered only at our main facility in Hermitage.
