Behavioral Health Rehabilitative Services Foundations & Connections
Serving Mercer and Lawrence counties
Sharon Regional Behavioral Health Services has been providing Behavioral Health Rehabilitative Services (BHRS) to children with mental health disorders since 1996. Our experienced and respected BHRS staff includes Master’s level Behavioral Specialist Consultants and Mobile Therapists, and Bachelor’s level Therapeutic Staff Support Workers who serve children in Mercer and Lawrence counties. In addition, our staff has Board Certified Behavioral Analyst credentialing.
Our clinical staff coordinate, carry out and analyze data from Functional Behavior Assessments to determine the priority needs of each child and their family, and from there prescribe a therapeutic, data driven treatment plan to be carried out by the BHRS staff and the family. Treatment is provided in the school, the home, and in the community.
Our program principles include:
- That a child’s family and community are essential for development – and are to be maximized in our interventions.
- That a child develops through natural sequences – and we will promote progress through each of those stages.
- That a child’s own interests and strengths are the building blocks which promote development – they are to be used to help the child grow and learn.
- That loving, nurturing relationships are a key to human development and potential – our relationships are to be positive and encouraging with each child.
- That every child is an individual and has a unique way of learning – each style is to be respected.
- That a child with autism spectrum disorder requires close communication between all service providers and family to reach full potential – we will assist in making these connections.
As part of their treatment plan a child may be assigned a Behavioral Specialist Consultant, Mobile Therapist and a Therapeutic Staff Support worker, or any prescribed combination of the three, as part of their treatment team. This specialized team works with youth to regulate their moods, expand their social skills, decrease anxiety, develop self-monitoring behaviors, increase positive self-image, increase personal responsibility, increase task completion, improve time management, and stress reduction.
Families are the most important part of a child’s life, and as such, a major focus of intervention. We ask that families participate in family sessions to learn relationship-based interventions and positive discipline techniques.
We also believe that it is essential for all services involved in the child’s care and treatment to be connected. Therefore, we promote a comprehensive approach in order to maximize your child’s development. We strive to compliment and reinforce those services that the child may already be receiving such as: occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, and educational systems
BHRS provides two quality wraparound programs serving children in our region:

The Connections Program
The Connections Program, launched in 1997, is an intensive, one to one, specialized program serving children with Pervasive Developmental Disorder, Autistic Disorder and Asperger’s Syndrome, and is based on the belief that through connections with others and our environment we can grow, learn and develop. Our clinical staff also recognizes that children with Autistic Spectrum Disorders have difficulty making these connections or they make these connections in different ways.
