Sharon Regional Quality Awards and Accreditations
Sharon Regional is fully-accredited by the Joint Commission. The Joint Commission evaluates and accredits nearly 15,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States. To earn and maintain The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™, an organization must undergo an on-site survey by a Joint Commission survey team at least every three years
Award Winning Patient Safety. Sharon Regional received a 2007 “Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Patient Safety” by HealthGrades, Inc., a leading source for health care quality information in the U.S. We are one of only 17 Pennsylvania hospitals to earn the award and only Mercer County hospital.
PET/CT Scanning Recognized for High Practice Standards. Sharon Regional was awarded a three-year accreditation in PET/CT scanning by the American College of Radiology for achieving high practice standards after a peer review.
Heart Institute Surgical and Interventional Outcomes Exceed National Standards. Sharon Regional’s most recent Cardiac Surgery and Interventional Cardiology Outcomes Report shows that patient outcomes in these two areas exceed quality standards above and beyond the national standards established by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and American College of Cardiology.
VHA Presents Six APEX Awards to Sharon Regional for demonstrating extraordinary levels of clinical performance. The awards are:
- Zero catheter-related blood stream infections for 27 consecutive months in 1) the Cardiovascular Unit from January 2005-March 2007 and 2) the ICCU from January 2005-March 2007.
- Zero MRSA infections for 1) six consecutive months in the Cardiovascular Unit from July-December 2006 and 2) nine consecutive months in the ICCU from March-November 2006.
- Zero ventilator-associated pneumonia for eight consecutive months and 100 percent compliance with the ventilator bundle in the Cardiovascular Unit from April-November 2006.
- Improve appropriate glucose control for three consecutive months by five percentage points in the ICCU from January-March 2006
